New details have emerged regarding the Jon Bernthal-led “The Punisher” Marvel Special Presentation.
The one-off for the Disney+ service was announced in February this year. Like “Werewolf by Night” and “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” the project is a standalone special with Bernthal not just starring but also writing the script alongside filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green (“We Own This City”).
As previously reported, it’s expected the special will be set after the events of the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again” with Castle on the run. Bernthal reprises the role in the second season of that show, which will wrap filming in the next few weeks.
Now, Nexus Point News reports that the special will be shot over a span of just a few weeks – specifically from mid-July to the first week of August in New York City.
Production looks to be going forward as soon as “Daredevil: Born Again” season two wraps. Bernthal will work on the one-off for those few weeks, and then jet off to the UK sometime after to film his scenes for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” which begins shooting in August in Glasgow before moving south to its home base at Pinewood Studios.
Story details about “The Punisher” special remain under wraps but the outlet confirms earlier reports that a female crime boss, likely to be Punisher villain Ma Gnucci, is being sought.
In the comics, Gnucci is a mafia family boss who has a vendetta against Frank – understandable considering he killed her three sons and a prior meeting with Frank led to her losing all her limbs in an attack by polar bears.
“Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2, “The Punisher” special and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” are all expected to arrive in 2026 – the former in March, the latter in July.
