Along with overperforming at the domestic box office, the newest chapter in the Blumhouse horror franchise “Insidious: The Red Door” has had the biggest overseas horror debut since 2019.
The Patrick Wilson-directed film pulled in $31.4 million from 52 markets, which is also the best for the franchise in like-for-like markets. It follows the domestic result, which beat expectations with a $32.6 million debut.
In fact, its overseas numbers put it ahead of recent horror franchise releases like “Scream VI” by 30% and “Evil Dead Rise” by 58%. It was Sony’s biggest-ever horror opening in Mexico and India and the biggest-ever horror opening weekend in the Philippines.
The film pushed “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” to second place with $26.5 million domestically and $31.8 million internationally for a worldwide total of $247.9 million – falling 56% domestically and 49% overseas.
Elsewhere, “Fast X” finally crossed $700 million at the global box office, surpassing the lifetime overseas take of “F9: The Fast Saga”.
Pixar’s “Elemental” is hanging in there with improvement overseas and the move racking up $252 million worldwide to date. Still, it pales compared to “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which now stands at a robust $642.2 million worldwide.
Finally, “The Flash” has crossed the $250 million mark with $261.6 million to date. In its fourth weekend of release, it has only managed to snag $5 million at the global box office. Understandably it will be hitting PVOD in just over a week.
