Feige Talks Changing Ms Marvel Powers
Disney+

Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Ms. Marvel” series sees the popular teenage Muslim comic character Kamala Khan making her way to the MCU.

While those involved in the adaptation have kept many details about her character in line with the comic, one obvious big change is her power set.

Gone is the Terrigen-induced shapeshifting and size-changing capabilities of her character from the comics. Instead, the trailers suggest her powers are of cosmic origin and seem to be more in line with that of DC’s Green Lantern.

Speaking about the change-up with Empire, Marvel’s chief Kevin Feige says:

“We adapt the comics; it’s not an exact translation. [Kamala] came about in a very specific time within the comic-book continuity. She is now coming into a very specific time within the MCU continuity. And those two things didn’t match.

What we will learn about where those powers come from, and how they come about, is specific to the MCU. You will see great comic splash panels in some of our action sequences. If you want big, giant hands and arms, well they’re here in spirit, if not in stretchy, plastic-type ways.”

“Ms. Marvel” will debut on Disney+ on June 8th.
