Farrell On “Sgt. Rock,” Extraordinary “Batman”

A little while back, actor Colin Farrell was linked to star in the film adaptation of the DC Comics title “Sgt. Rock” for DC Studios.

Filmmaker Luca Guadagnino was originally tapped to direct the project that would’ve been set in the DC Universe. His “Queer” star Daniel Craig was originally reported as playing the character, but later it was revealed he wasn’t involved with Farrell eyed for the lead role.

Then the whole project stalled earlier this year and while Gunn indicated this Summer the film was ‘still moving forward’, Guadagnino dropped out of the project in July.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Farrell said the film has a “fantastic script” and he has no clue what’s going on with it now:

“I know nothing about it, brother. I was going to do it with Luca. We spoke a couple of times. Had some really nice chats. I have no idea where it is now. But it should be made. It’s really, really good. There’s some wonderful stuff in it.”

At this time, the Sgt. Rock movie doesn’t have a release date and doesn’t appear to be a priority for DC Studios. The DCU projects arriving in 2026 are Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface.

Farrell will soon reprise his role as Oz Cobb/The Penguin in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II”, which will shoot early next year ahead of an October 2027 release. Speaking about that film’s script, he also discussed a recent meeting he had with Reeves where they talked about it:

“I had so many thoughts and feelings to share with Matt about the script. I really do think it’s a masterwork. Kind of a contemporary genre masterwork. It’s so brilliant, and Robert [Pattinson] has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through. It’s dense. It’s really, really intelligent. It’s so detailed. It’s really extraordinary. I think he’s going to make an extraordinary film.”

Farrell recently shared that the film takes place a few weeks after the events of “The Penguin”.
