“Fantastic Four” Box-Office Is Superman Sized

Marvel Studios and Disney’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is now on track for an estimated domestic opening weekend of around $125 million.

The film pulled in a massive $24.4 million in Thursday preview screenings, effectively double the preview hauls of both “Thunderbolts” and “Captain America: Brave New World” earlier this year.

They’re still counting, of course, but Deadline says as of mid-Friday the estimates are an opening day haul of around $56 million (including those $24 million in previews).

That is on par with “Superman” which had a domestic opening day of $56.5 million, though made less in previews ($22.5 million).

Projections currently have the film neck-and-neck in terms of domestic opening, but that could well change as more numbers come in. Indeed, the film seems to be tracking slightly better with the under-35 set than “Superman”.

Overseas, the film is eying an international debut of around $90-100 million, again about on par with “Superman” which made $95 million in its overseas debut.
