“Family” Axed After Hutton Rape Allegations

After just one season on FOX, drama series “Almost Family” has been cancelled.

News of the axing arrives in the wake of rape allegations made against series star and Oscar winner Timothy Hutton with The Wrap reporting that the decision to end the show was made just a few hours after the allegations surfaced at BuzzFeed on Monday but no official reason has yet been given for the cancellation.

That said, FOX had already removed the show from its schedule after the January 15th episode, burning off the remaining two episodes on February 22nd.

The allegations against Hutton have been levelled by actress and model Sera Johnston who has reportedly accused Hutton of raping her in a Vancouver hotel in 1983 when she was 14 and he was in his 20s.

Hutton has ‘completely and unequivocally denied’ these allegations in a statement through his lawyer, claiming he never met Johnston at all and indicating she is trying to shake him down.

The series followed a grown-up only child named Julia Bechley (Brittany Snow) who finds her life turned upside down when her father, Leon Bechley (Timothy Hutton), reveals that, over the course of his prize-winning career as a pioneering fertility doctor, he used his own sperm to conceive upwards of a hundred children.

Julia soon discovers two new sisters – her former best friend (Megalyn Echikunwoke), and an ex-Olympic athlete (Emily Osment) who begin to embrace their new reality.
