Acclaimed actress Diane Ladd has died. The actress passed away at her home in Ojai, California at the age of 89.
The Mississippi-born actress had a career spanning six decades across film, television, and stage.
In her time, she racked up three Oscar nominations for her performances in 1974’s “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore,” 1990’s “Wild at Heart” and 1991’s “Rambling Rose”. Her work in the former led to the sitcom “Alice” for which she won a Golden Globe.
She also appeared in such films as “Chinatown,” “Black Widow,” “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” “The Wild Angels,” “28 Days,” “Mother” and “Primary Colors”.
She also scored three Emmy nominations for her work on TV and won a Golden Globe for her work alongside her daughter Laura Dern in “Enlightened”. Other TV credits include “Kingdom Hospital,” “The Fugitive,” “Ironside,” “77 Sunset Strip,” “Naked City,” “The Secret Life of Bees” and “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman”.
Laura Dern says in a statement: “My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother passed with me beside her this morning at her home in Ojai, California. She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created. We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”
Ladd remained active well into her later years with more than 200 roles on her credits list.
