Amazon Prime Video aired the second season finale for “Fallout” this week, and in doing so has set up events for the next round.
Amazon’s opting for a weekly rollout has led to a quieter overall response than the binge-dropped first season that kind of exploded and drew a lot of attention back in early 2024.
Nonetheless, critical and audience scores have been as good as the first season, if not better in some ways, suggesting most are very happy with where the show is creatively.
SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON 2 FINALE AHEAD
The finale includes a post-credits scene that deals with the Brotherhood of Steel, after being absent for much of the back half of the second season, and shows blueprints for a big mechanical suit named Liberty Prime Alpha. Liberty Prime is a superweapon that plays an important role in both “Fallout 3” and “Fallout 4”.
The season also ends with The Ghoul heading for the mountains of Colorado to find his wife and daughter. The game “Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel” takes place partly in Colorado, but a cancelled game (the original “Fallout 3”) took place there.
This has already led to speculation that lore and elements from that cancelled game could make their way to the screen next season. Others are speculating we’ll see Enclave HQ or The Institute in that location next season, while use of “Fallout 4” elements in the second season could continue into next and tie into The Ghoul’s daughter Janey.
The series has already been renewed for a third season with a Film & TV Alliance posting indicating that production will commence May 1st in California. Filming on the second season began a year out from its premiere, which would suggest a mid-2027 airing.
