Expect Car-Fu & Yen Fights In “John Wick 4”

Lionsgate

The highly anticipated “John Wick: Chapter 4” won’t be resting on the franchise’s laurels it seems as the film’s star Keanu Reeves promises the film will not only push the fights to the next level, it’s set to give the “Fast and Furious” franchise a run for its money with is ‘car-fu’ sequences.

In the new entry, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating The High Table and must face off against new enemy The Marquis (Bill Skarsgard) who has powerful alliances across the globe that could turn some of Wick’s old friends into foes.

Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Clancy Brown, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Donnie Yen co-star in the film and in an interview with Total Film recently, Reeves says the new entry has the most action of any of the ‘Wick’ films to date.

He adds: “It’s more by a good margin. It’s a big show”. He then says it was the hardest physical role he has ever had to do in his career so far, and “they really trained me up to be able to have what we call the toolbox.” Reeves also beefed up his driving skills for a major setpiece that takes place near the Arc de Triomphe:

“We took the car-driving to the next level, which I really enjoy. There’s 180s, forward-into-reverse 180s, reverse into-forward 270s, drifting… So it was really fun to get a chance to learn those skills, and to play.”

Meanwhile, Hong Kong action icon Donnie Yen joins the franchise new character Caine, an ex-assassin and old friend of Wick. Stunt coordinator and second unit director Scott Rogers says Yen brings his own ‘master level’ fighting abilities to the films”

“He is not an actor that you have to train for each specific fight. He is a great actor who is also a trained fighter. His ability to enhance the choreography through his own creativity is world class. When you add that to the many years of John Wick training that Keanu Reeves has invested, you end up with something very special.”

Reeves promises that “John Wick: Chapter 4 is our opus. Oh my god, it’s crazy, man! It’s banana cakes!”. The film opens in cinemas around the world on March 24th.
