Ewan McGregor is set to both star in and executive produce the UK drama series “A Gentleman In Moscow” for the Paramount+ service.
eOne and VIS are backing this adaptation of Amor Towles’ novel in which McGregor plays aristocrat Count Alexander Rostov who finds himself on the wrong side of history after the Russian revolution.
Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again.
As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside, Rostov builds a new life within the walls of the hotel and discovers the true value of friendship, family and love.
The series is written by showrunner and executive producer Ben Vanstone (“The Last Kingdom”). Filming will kick off later this year ahead of a debut in 2023 on Paramount+ internationally and Showtime in the United States.
