Evans On Potential “Fantastic 4” Return

Evans On Potential Fantastic 4 Return
20th Century Fox

Doing the press rounds for “Lightyear,” actor Chris Evans has indicated in several interviews that he has no real desire to return to the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America.

The actor made it clear last week that while he knows there’s a desire for it out there, he’s happy with how he left it and to revisit it “would be a tall order… it would have to be perfect.”

This week though, he spoke with MTV News and was asked about potentially returning to another Marvel character – Johnny Storm whom he played in the two “Fantastic Four” films at Fox.

With the MCU firmly establishing a multiverse, Evans popping up in a small role as an alternate version of Johnny Storm isn’t out of the question. From the sounds of it, Evans is open to the idea:

“God, wouldn’t that be great? Wouldn’t that be great?. No, no one’s ever come to me about that. I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. Oh my God, I’m old. But I really love that character, but I think… aren’t they doing something now with ‘Fantastic Four’?

I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. You know what I mean? Cap is so precious to me. And you know, I almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So, I loved that role and, you know, who knows.”

What’ll happen with “Fantastic Four” isn’t clear right now as the project recently lost its director Jon Watts who jumped ship to work on “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” still at Disney. It’s expected a replacement director could be revealed at the D23 Expo.

Evans will be seen next month in the Russo Brothers’ “The Gray Man” film on Netflix.
