Ballet is dead. Amazon Prime Video has cancelled its new series “Etoile” after just six weeks.
Created by “Gilmore Girls” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” alum Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, the project was greenlit with a two-season commitment and starred the likes of Luke Kirby and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Reviews were fairly good with a 69/100 on Metacritic, and all eight episodes were released at once on the streamer in late April – a rarity for the streamer which usually opts for weekly releases.
Despite the content flood, the title failed to make Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming charts.
It’s not the only cancellation today as FOX has cancelled “The Cleaning Lady” after four seasons and “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” after three. Both shows had been ‘on the bubble’.
Both series finished airing their most recent seasons over the past fortnight. They join fellow FOX drama “Rescue: Hi-Surf” which also got the chop recently.
FOX recently handed out four-season renewal orders for “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers” and “Family Guy”.
