Carlos Lopez Estrada (“Blindspotting,” “Raya and the Last Dragon”) has been set to rewrite and direct the live-action remake of 2016’s acclaimed sci-fi/romance/fantasy anime feature “Your Name” at Paramount, Bad Robot and Toho.
In the reimagined version, two teenagers discover they are magically and intermittently swapping bodies. When a disaster threatens to upend their lives, they must journey to meet and save their worlds.
López Estrada is writing the current script based on an initial version written by Eric Heisserer (“Arrival,” “Bird Box”). J.J. Abrams, Genki Kawamura, Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen will produce.
The film is currently in development, with Toho handling the release in Japan whilst Paramount handles it elsewhere. The original film grossed over $230 million in Japan alone.
