Esai Morales has joined the cast of the upcoming seventh and eighth “Mission: Impossible” films at Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media.
As per usual, director Christopher McQuarrie broke the news on social media and didn’t offer any character details, though the tags suggest the actor will appear in both films. (UPDATE: Deadline says he’s replacing Nicholas Hoult as the film’s primary villain. No reason for Hoult’s departure has been revealed).
Morales is an acting veteran of TV and film and has effectively not been out of work for nearly forty years. He’s coming off recent stints as Deathstroke in “Titans” and Jorge Castillo in “How To Get Away with Murder” along with other major roles on TV in recent years including “Ozark,” “NCIS: LA,” “Mars,” “Chicago P.D.,” “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series,” “Criminal Minds” and more.
His work goes back way further, name a TV series he’s probably been in it from “Caprica” to “Jericho,” “NYPD Blue,” “Magic City,” “The Brink,” “Major Crimes,” “24,” “Burn Notice,” Blue Bloods” and so on. His film work includes “La Bamba,” “Rapa Nui,” “Freejack,” “The Principal,” “Superfly,” “Kill Kill Faster Faster ” and more.
He joins other new to the series inclusions like Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff and returnees Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Henry Czerny.
The most recent film, ‘Fallout,’ scored both the highest reviews for the franchise and the largest gross with over $790 million worldwide.
