Eric Bana will star as Mike ‘The Bike’ Hailwood in the biopic about the famed motorcycle racer. Bana and Robert Connolly will co-direct from a screenplay written by Bana for their Pick Up Truck Pictures and Arenamedia companies.
Hailwood is a nine-time world-champion motorcycle racer and the film will focus on his famed comeback moment in 1978. After retiring at his career peak eleven years earlier with twelve victories at the Isle of Man TT, he returned to the race with plans to take back his crown aboard a Ducati.
Run on public roads on the British Island, The Isle of Man is among to most dangerous races in the world with 151 fatalities since its inception in 1907.
Hailwood was killed in a car accident (along with his daughter) when he was just 40 years old. Connolly and Bana recently teamed up for an adaptation of Jane Harper’s “The Dry” which has yet to be released.
