Following in the wake of 20th Century Fox delaying both “The Predator” and “Battle Angel: Alita” yesterday morning, three other studios are following suit with some key release date changes.
New Line’s latest “The Conjuring” spin-off “The Nun” is fleeing the Summer, ditching its July 13th release in favour of an early Fall opening on September 7th which it will have by itself. Last year “IT” proved a big winner in the same weekend and so Warners is understandably trying a horror film in that period again.
Sony Pictures has moved the Denzel Washington-led “The Equalizer” sequel up by two weeks, from August 3rd to July 20th. They’ve also moved the Jim Caviezel-led “Paul, Apostle of Christ” up by five days from March 28th to March 23rd.
Finally, STXfilms has set a July 20th release date for “Mile 22,” the latest collaboration of director Peter Berg and actor Mark Wahlberg following the likes of “Patriots Day,” “Deepwater Horizon” and “Lone Survivor”. Lauren Cohan, Iko Uwais and John Malkovich co-star in the action thriller about a tactical command unit trying to help smuggle a defector out of a foreign country.
