Emilio Estevez has exited the “The Mighty Ducks” series revival on the Disney+ service according to Deadline.
The actor, who reprised his role from both the 1992 movie and its two sequels in the first season of the series “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” will not return for the follow-up season of the latter.
ABC Signature, which produces the show, reportedly made a decision not to pick up the actor’s option after weeks of negotiations with his team in relation to vaccination requirements. Most productions from Disney TV Studios have adopted a mandatory vaccination policy for cast and crew.
The second season scripts are being written with an early 2022 filming start set. Scripts will be adjusted to allow the story to continue without his character of Gordon Bombay.
The trade also says according to their sources close to the actor, creative differences may have played a role in his exit.
The show’s first season scored generally good reviews and ran on the service from March through to May of this year.
