Emilia Clarke To Play Oscar Wilde’s Wife

HBO

Emilia Clarke is set to star as Constance Lloyd, the Irish children’s author and Oscar Wilde’s wife, in Sophie Hyde’s “An Ideal Wife”.

The film charts Wilde’s marriage to Lloyd, an author and activist, and the sexual awakening she experienced after she learned that Wilde was gay.

Lloyd died in 1898 at the age of 40 while living in exile in Italy with her two sons – the family distancing themselves from the scandal of Wilde’s imprisonment in 1895.

It will mark Clarke’s return to film three years after her last effort with the 2019 romcom “Last Christmas”. Hyde most recently directed the acclaimed Emma Thompson-led “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande”.
