“Yellowjackets” star Ella Purnell has scored a lead role in the TV series adaptation of the “Fallout” video game series at Amazon.

The story is set in a world where the future, as envisioned by Americans in the late 1940s, explodes upon itself through a nuclear war in 2077.

Purnell joins previously announced Walton Goggins in the series. Character details are under wraps, but Purnell’s role is described as “upbeat and uncannily direct”.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner serve as executive producers and co-showrunners while Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy executive produce. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year.

Purnell has had a very busy few years. Alongside “Yellowjackets” she was recently in both Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” and lends her voice to the animated “Star Trek: Prodigy”. Other work includes “Sweetbitter,” “Belgravia” and Tim Burton’s “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”.
