Not only is it likely to score year best reviews, but FromSoftware’s “Elden Ring” has now done the kind of sales figures usually reserved for the biggest Rockstar Games titles.
The developer has announced that the game title has had 12 million in worldwide sales in its first 17 days. To put that in perspective, that’s on track with the kind of numbers “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Grand Theft Auto V” did at launch. In fact, the only open-world hit to sell faster was “Red Dead Redemption II”.
It’s also blitzing previous FromSoftware titles like the “Dark Souls” games, “Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice,” and PlayStation exclusives “Bloodborne” and “Demon’s Souls”. All of these have generally racked up between 1 million and 3 million in sales in their first month.
The title is also officially the biggest new IP launch in Europe since “Tom Clancy’s The Division” in 2016 according to GameIndustry.Biz. The outlet also indicates in Europe, PC accounted for 44% of sales so far with 27% for PS5, 16% for Xbox and 13% for PS4.
FromSoftware has been building a steady fanbase for a decade now with consistent releases, but this pushes them up to a whole new level. Publisher Bandai Namco has also reportedly already expressed interest in expanding the “Elden Ring” brand.
The success has led to fans to push online for a PC port of the recent “Demon’s Souls” remaster and a PC port & PS5 remaster of “Bloodborne,” even as all indications are FromSoftware has no such plans to do either at this time.
