Ed Skrein (“Game of Thrones,” “Deadpool,” “Midway”) will replace Rupert Friend as the main villain in Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic “Rebel Moon” at Netflix. “Homeland” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” star Friend has had to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts.

In addition, Cleopatra Coleman (“Dopesick”), Fra Fee (“Hawkeye”) and Rhian Rees (“Nope”) have signed on for roles in the film whose cast includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman and Alfonso Herrera.

The story is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, then dispatching a young woman (Boutella) with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.

Snyder is directing from the script he wrote with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Eric Newman and Wesley Coller are producing.
