The Disney+ service has premiered the first brief 30-second trailer for the long-awaited “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” TV series.
In addition, a December 20th launch date has been announced for the series, which will arrive with two episodes on that day, followed by weekly drops.
Unlike the loosely adapted films, the series is backed all the way by author Rick Riordan and is expected to closely follow the beloved young adult novels.
The live-action series tells the fantastical story of the twelve-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who is just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt.
Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus. The series star Walker Scobell as Percy alongside Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood.
The Greek gods will include Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, former WWE superstar Adam Copeland as Ares, Jay Duplass as Hades, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus, Toby Stephens as Poseidon, and the late Lance Reddick as Zeus.
Also starring are Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Glynn Turman as Chiron, Megan Mullally as Mr. Dodds, Olivia Morton as Nancy Bobofit, and Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano.
Riordan previously indicated a second season writer’s room was opened prior to the strike.
