Dwayne Johnson is set to re-team with A24 on the psychological thriller “Breakthrough” in which he’ll co-star.
Rising scribe Zeke Goodman penned the film set in late 1990s Southern California. The story follows an alienated young man who comes under the influence of a motivational guru (Johnson).
The guru’s intoxicating charm masks his morally questionable methods of manipulation and his own concealed darkness. Casting is still underway for the lead role and other supporting parts.
No director is attached to the project yet, but Stacey Sher’s Shiny Penny Productions will produce alongside Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions.
Johnson will next be seen playing MMA fighter Mark Kerr in Benny Safdie’s “The Smashing Machine” in October. That marked his first collaboration with A24 which continues with this film.
Johnson is also attached to the short story fitness horror adaptation “Ripped,” and Martin Scorsese’s untitled Hawaiian crime film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt.
