Dwayne Johnson Explains “Jungle Cruise” Delay

On Friday, Disney Pictures shook up its release date schedule, moving projects back by several months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

One big exception though was their theme park ride-inspired “Jungle Cruise” which was moved even further back – specifically it got pushed back a full year. This was after the film was already delayed several months to meet its original July 2020 release.

On the heels of the new delay, the film’s star Dwayne Johnson jumped onto Instagram and shared an explanation on why the film has been pushed back so far, saying it’s all to do with both corporate synergy and widespread public sentiment.

In other words, Disney’s theme parks and cruises have to be up and running again and the world in a better mood:

“We had some tremendous conversations with ourselves, Seven Bucks [Productions], [and] the Disney leadership team about making sure the parks are fully operational, that Disney cruise lines are fully operational, functional, sailing the oceans [and] delivering the joy to families all around the world as they love doing. But more importantly than that […] it was very important that everyone had emotional confidence not only here in the [United States] but also around the world.

That emotional confidence allows us to get our kids back to school [and] feeling good about that, allows us to get back to work [and] feeling good about that, allows our Disney employees [and] our Disney team members to get back to work, too, and spread that joy and happiness as they love doing and are so proud to do.”

“Jungle Cruise” is now scheduled to hit cinemas on July 30th 2021, a full three years after it was shot.
