Filmmaker Ava DuVernay has departed the previously announced Prince documentary she was slated to direct for Netflix, the director citing ‘creative differences’. She tells The Los Angeles Times: “It just didn’t work out. There’s a lot of beautiful material there. I wish them well.”
It was said Prince’s estate hand-picked DuVernay to helm the documentary, as the late musician was a big fan of the director who was able to scour the musician’s legendary vault including his projects that he created but never released
DuVernay previously scored an Oscar nomination for her work on Netflix’s feature documentary “13th”. She’s currently busy developing “New Gods” for Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films and is coming off the Emmy-nominated Netflix limited series “When They See Us”.
