Chernobyl Helmer To Direct Dune Series
Warner Bros. Pictures

Just as filming kicks off on HBO Max’s “Dune” prequel series, the project has seen one of its key instigators stepping away.

WarnerMedia has confirmed that series creator and writer Diane Ademu-John has stepped down from her role as co-showrunner on the series just as shooting began in Budapest on Tuesday

Ademu-John will remain attached to the series as an executive producer, whilst Alison Schapker will now serve as the sole showrunner on the production and will executive produce with Johan Renck (who is directing the premiere).

The series is reportedly set 10,000 years before the events of “Dune” and will focus on the Harkonnen sisters as they battle the forces that threaten humanity. In the process, it leads to the creation of the Bene Gesserit order.

The series will star Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson, Indira Varma, Travis Fimmel, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, and Chloe Lea.

Denis Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron and Cait Collins also executive produce with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.

The series is expected to debut shortly after the November 3rd 2023 release of the “Dune: Part Two” film, which is currently in production.
