“Dune: Part Two” To Run Over Three Hours?

Warner Bros. Pictures

A new report indicates that Denis Villeneuve’s much-anticipated adaptation of the second half of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel classic “Dune” could be set to run long – considerably longer than its predecessor.

World of Reel claims that the current cut of “Dune: Part Two” comes in at a considerable 195 minutes long (3 hours and 15 minutes). Of course, with four months before release, there’s still a little time for some more editing if required.

In comparison, “Dune: Part One” ran for 155 minutes (2 hours and 35 minutes), so a 40-minute longer sequel is considerable. Even if it does undergo further edits, it will very likely be longer than its predecessor.

195 minutes is about on par with “Titanic” and “Schindler’s List” in terms of length as well as being just six minutes short of “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (theatrical edition).

The new film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stephen McKinley Henderson all reprise their roles and are joined by Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli.

The first film scored much critical acclaim and ten Academy Awards nominations – ultimately sweeping the tech categories with six wins for cinematography, production design, editing, score, sound and visual effects.
