Announced during this week’s Annecy International Animation Festival, Dreamworks Animation has announced that their new feature “Orion and the Dark” is set to premiere through Netflix in 2024.
Celebrated “Being John Malkovich” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” scribe Charlie Kaufman has penned this adaptation of the book by Emma Yarlett.
Set outside Philadelphia in the 1990s, the story follows Orion (Jacob Tremblay), an anxious young boy who is afraid of the dark.
Then, the living embodiment of his worst fear, ‘The Dark (Paul Walter Hauser) pays him a visit to prove there is nothing to be afraid of in the night. Orion must decide if he can learn to accept the unknown and embrace the joy of living.
Producer Peter McCown says: “It has the Charlie Kaufman stuff in it” along with an illustrated, hand-drawn look to portray various characters in this including Dark, Sleep, Quiet, Insomnia, Dreams, and Unexplained Noises.
“Trolls World Tour” storyboard artist Sean Charmatz makes his feature directorial debut with the movie produced by McCown and executive produced by Bonnie Arnold and Walt Dohrn.
The announcement comes as Dreamworks Animation has both “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken” and “Trolls Band Together” on the the way shortly.
