Dreamworks Planning A “Dog Man” Movie

“Animaniacs” and “Pinky and the Brain” writer Peter Hastings is attached to direct a film adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s massively popular graphic novel series “Dog Man” for Dreamworks and Universal Pictures.

The series of books follows the adventures of a lovable canine superhero and his friends like the curious kitten Li’l Petey and artistic robot 80-HD. Together they are the ‘Supa Buddies’.

Pilkey created “Captain Underpants” and “Dog Man” became an even bigger hit for him with its themes of empathy, kindness, persistence and the importance of doing good.

Recent titles have had first printings of 3-5 million copies, numbers that dwarf anything from Marvel or DC comics. The series has nearly 40 million copies in print to date.
