Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” has pulled in a very strong $11.1 million in previews.
$8.6 million of that came from regular Thursday previews and another $2.5 million in early access screenings on Wednesday.
The film is on course to easily take the top spot for its domestic debut weekend, with projections being revised slightly upwards to $75 million or more.
While critics scores for the film are good if a little tepid, audience scores so far on review aggregate sites have been stellar.
The movie also is able to take over the IMAX screens that “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” have been hogging for the past three weekends.
The new “How to Train Your Dragon” will push “Lilo & Stitch” into second place, that live-action remake of the 2002 Disney film past the $800 million mark at the global box office earlier this week.
