Though Idris Elba vs. a lion should be a draw, it’s not expected to be enough of one to beat Crunchyroll’s rollout of the anime feature “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” at the box-office this coming weekend.

Tetsuro Kodama’s film based on the anime franchise is set to open wide in around 3,940 theaters including all premium ticket formats like 4DX, Imax, Dolby and D-box. It’s the widest ever release for a Crunchyroll title.

According to projections, it’s headed for a haul of $13-15 million over the three-day weekend and a likely first place position. Anime films in North America burn hot and fast, the first weekend is essentially where the movies make the easy majority of their coin so don’t expect its success to last long.

Meanwhile, Universal’s Elba-led lion-stalking film “Beast” will open across 3,500 screens and is expected to debut at around $10 million. The film, about a recently widowed father and his two teenage daughters (Iyana Halley and Leah Jeffries) who find themselves hunted by a massive rogue lion, cost an efficient $36 million to make.

In limited release, IFC Films has the comedy “Spin Me Round” starring Aubrey Plaza and Alison Brie, whilst Vertical Entertainment has crime drama “Delia’s Gone” with Paul Walter Hauser and Marisa Tomei.
