“Dragon Age 4” Gets “Mass Effect” Staff

EA

EA has announced that BioWare veteran Mark Darrah, who retired from the company in early 2021 after almost a quarter of a century at the studio, has been brought back.

Darrah will serve as a consultant on “Dragon Age: Dreadwolf” in an effort to complete this fourth entry in the famous fantasy game series which he executive produced.

According to VentureBeat, members of BioWare’s team working on the next “Mass Effect” title (the fifth overall after the main trilogy and spin-off ‘Andromeda’) are now assisting with the making of “Dragon Age: Dreadwolf”.

‘Dreadwolf’ has been in post-production since last September and both BioWare and EA are focused on getting that completed. As a result, only a small core group led by Mike Gamble is continuing work on the next “Mass Effect”.

BioWare general manager Gary McKay tells the outlet that the new ‘Mass’ is reportedly still in the pre-production stage and thus a long way away from a release:

“Our studio is focused on creating the best Dragon Age: Dreadwolf while the core Mass Effect team continues their pre-production work. We continue to iterate and polish Dreadwolf, focusing on the things that matter most to our fans.

As we further connect this new experience with the series’ legacy Mark Darrah will join the team as a consultant, bringing with him years of experience working on Dragon Age.”

Samantha Ryan, senior vice president and group general manager at EA, says:

“BioWare has a long history of making amazing single-player games with powerful stories that fans can immerse themselves within. They’ve been taking their time on the next Dragon Age, trying new things, bringing in the right people, and making sure they’re refining their game. That’s normal for a complex game of this genre. This phase of production takes time, and the studio wants to make sure it gets it right for its fans.”

BioWare recently revealed that ‘Dreadwolf’ has reached alpha status and is playable from start to end. When either title might hit the market is not clear.
