“RuPaul’s Drag Race” fifth season winner Jinkx Monsoon has joined the cast of the BBC’s long-running and popular “Doctor Who” series.

Monsoon recently completed a successful run on Broadway as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton in “Chicago”. She is reportedly set to be playing a major role in the new “Doctor Who” series, but specifics of the character are under wraps.

Showrunner Russell T Davies says in a statement: “In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and ‘Doctor Who’ will never be the same again.”

Monsoon, who also won the seventh season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” says: “I’m honored, thrilled, and utterly excited to join ‘Doctor Who!’ Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer – I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”

The series returns in November with three special episodes with David Tennant as the 14th Doctor – coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the franchise. Tennant and Catherine Tate are reprising their roles for those episodes airing in November.

After that, “Sex Education” star Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the 15th Doctor with his first episode airing over the festive period. Monsoon will be a part of Gatwa’s first season run.

Following a deal between the BBC and Disney Branded Television, “Doctor Who” outside of the U.K. and Ireland will be exclusively available via the Disney+ streaming service.
