Don’t Expect Stone In “Basic Instinct” Reboot

TriStar Pictures

Last month came the news that 1991’s “Basic Instinct” was being rebooted with the original movie’s screenwriter, Joe Eszterhas, returning to pen the film.

Eszterhas is reportedly scoring millions for the film, which was dubbed “anti-woke” and doesn’t shy away from the sleaziness of his 1990s films like “Sliver,” “Showgirls” and “Jade”.

At the same time, there were reports that Sharon Stone may be circling a return to her role of Catherine Tramell in the film, a part she did reprise before in the widely panned flop “Basic Instinct 2”.

Speaking with Today, Stone made it pretty clear she’s not involved in the reboot:

“If it goes the way the one I was in went, then I would just say I do not know why you would do it… Go ahead. Good f—ing luck!”

Stone, currently on screen as the villain of “Nobody 2,” says she’s now at an age where she can be candid as she longer cares what anybody thinks of her:

“I’m at that stage in my life where I already retired once. And I already died a couple times. I’m like, ‘What are you going to do? Kill me again? Go ahead.'”

Stone recently shared to BusinessInsider that she and “Basic Instinct” co-star Michael Douglas first met at Cannes and had a verbal fight, but says the tension it resulted in following her casting proved beneficial:

“It worked great, because I was not rattled if he yelled at me. That was interesting for the character, because Michael has a temper, and I didn’t care. That worked very well in our dynamic. Eventually, we became the greatest of friends, to this day. I admire him tremendously.”
