The official announcement of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” this week, the much talked about Snyder Cut of the film finally being made official and setting a 2021 target release, continues to dominate conversation.
Along with stirring up talk of what failed films with legendary director’s cuts deserve a second chance, and the scary power of fandom in the social media age, more details have begun to emerge about what the new cut of the film will entail. One things is clear – don’t expect any newly shot footage.
The Wrap reports that Snyder won’t exactly be able to do everything he wanted to finish his version of the movie. HBO Max is footing the bill and are giving him almost everything – more post-production, more special effects, more scoring, and even ADR sessions for new dialogue. However: “there’s not going to be any reshoots of any kind with any actors… (Snyder) did want to shoot and he wanted to do additional photography but HBO Max said no, that’s not happening.”
That’s not a surprise – beyond the difficulty with filming anything at the moment, any additional filming would cause the film’s costs to sky rocket above the additional $20-30 million they’re already spending now.
The same report also confirms the movie is it – effectively ending the DCEU of Snyder’s vision: “Basically one and done this is to…close the loop, to finish the story. Maybe not the whole story, cause he did have like a three to five-picture plan. But this Snyder-verse, I’ll call it, will end with the Snyder Cut. Don’t expect any spinoffs.
