Dont Expect Cumberbatch As Thrawn

One thing fans are expecting from the “Star Wars” franchise sometime in the coming years, its the debut of a live-action version of the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The character, a strategic mastermind originally created in the 1990s novels and who has appeared in the animated series in the current continuity, is likely to pop up at some point on one of the near dozen “Star Wars” series in the works.

When his name was dropped on the second season of “The Mandalorian,” that made it almost a certainty. So, naturally, fan casting for the role has been going on for some time.

One of the most regularly cited names pegged as being perfect for the part is actor Benedict Cumberbatch. However, the actor, out doing promotional rounds for “The Courier” this week, tells Collider not only does he not know the character, but he has no interest in doing a role that requires a bunch of make-up:

“That’s a straight no from me, right now. There’s no way I want to be turned blue. I turned the air blue, very recently. No no, seriously, I have precious time with my children and I think sitting in a makeup chair and being painted blue, and the amount of time it would take to do that and then take it off at the end of the day might just… it’s not the right time in my life for that.”

Cumberbatch is presently filming Sam Raimi’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” for Marvel Studios, the actor gushed about how collaborative Raimi has been on the project. He also has numerous other film projects on the way.
