Don’t Expect A “Naked Gun” Reboot Sequel

Paramount Pictures

Filmmaker Akiva Schaffer has sadly revealed that fans of his Liam Neeson-led reboot of “The Naked Gun” last year won’t be getting a sequel.

Speaking with CBR at the Critics Choice Awards, Schaffer was asked about plans for a possible sequel to the successful film.

He sadly confirmed that it’s not happening: “We are not planning another. I don’t know if you heard about Paramount kind of changed owners. It was maybe something. It was about seven days after the movie came out, and so, you know, we’re waiting to hear from see if they would want it.”

Schaffer did add that if they ever did move forward on such a project, there were plenty of ideas already for it. He says co-writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand “have a list of gags” while producer Erica Huggins adding: “We have a big idea that we had talked about.”

Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand and Danny Huston co-starred in the film, which revolved around the son of Lt. Frank Drebin as he tries to prevent the closure of Police Squad.

Reviews were quite good overall, with praise for Neeson’s performance, while the film grossed over $100 million worldwide from its $42 million budget. It also won best comedy film at the aforementioned Critics Choice Awards.
