Universal Television has delayed production on three of its series – the second season of Netflix’s “Russian Doll,” the second season of Apple TV+ anthology series “Little America,” and the first season of the Ed Helms-led “Rutherford Falls” for Peacock.
All three of the shows were yet to start filming and had no firm delivery dates, giving the studio room to do this as it navigates the fast-spreading coronavirus outbreak. The reason for the delay is said to be due to the majority of the shows requiring international travel for their upcoming storylines.
Writing and casting for the three comedies will continue and production on all of the studio’s current series and pilots are going on as planned for now.
Also grounding to a halt is the Ryan Murphy-directed feature adaptation of the Tony-nominated stage musical “The Prom” for Netflix which was just days away from completing its shoot. The Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman-led has been delayed as an “abundance of caution” as no one on the production has tested positive at this point.
It’s a similar story for the Apple TV+ high-profile series “The Morning Show” which is also going on a two-week hiatus with immediate effect, though no one from the cast or crew is sick.
The news comes as more cancellations or delays go into effect including the TCM classic film festival which has just been canned, and the current season of the National Hockey League (NHL) being suspended immediately.
