“Dodgeball” Helmer Tackles “Spy vs. Spy”

“Dodgeball” and “Skyscraper” director Rawson Marshall Thurber has been set to direct the long-gestating film adaptation of the iconic long-running comic strip “Spy vs. Spy” for Warner Bros. Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.

Featured in Mad Magazine and created in 1961 by Antonio Prohias, the comic followed the mostly triangular Black Spy and White Spy who each attempt to kill the other via Wile E. Coyote style elaborate traps.

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer had originally intended to develop the project as a vehicle for Howard to direct with a version to be co-written by David Koepp and John Kamps. That version didn’t happen, but Howard and Grazer remain onboard as producers.

The comic series was previously adapted into a video game and an animated series.
