“Doctor Who” Season 15 Begins Production

BBC

We’re still months away from his first season arriving early next year, but filming has already kicked off today on the second season of Ncuti Gatwa’s iteration of the Time Lord in “Doctor Who”.

The BBC announced the start of production on what will be the fifteenth season overall since the reboot began back in 2005. Alongside Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, Millie Gibson is expected to return as his new companion Ruby Sunday.

Further guest casting or story details are under wraps, but the show is again being executive produced by Russell T. Davies who returns to the fold after having steered the ship during the Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant eras.

The new era of “Doctor Who” commences next month with Tennant and Catherine Tate returning to their roles for three special holiday episodes to launch later this year on BBC in the UK and on Disney+ in November.

Gatwa is expected to make his official debut in the last of these specials before getting his own Christmas special in December. Gatwa and Gibson filmed the eight-episode fourteenth season from December last year through to July this year.

After a three-month break, they’re back at it for the new run which will likely film through April-May next year.

The BBC has also released a featurette today showing how David Tennant filmed his most recent regeneration which was shot completely separately from Jodie Whittaker’s shoot for the scene.
