Disney’s Lee On An Animated “TRON” Film

Disney CCO Jennifer Lee is essentially in charge of determining what projects move forward at Disney’s animated division, including the upcoming “Wish” which opens this Thanksgiving as part of Disney’s centenary celebrations.

Recently she spoke with Collider about the film and indicates she’s open to suggestions from outside parties when it comes to other ideas for the animated division.

The outlet asked her if there was any potential update she could give regarding the possibility of an animated film set in the “TRON” universe.

Lee says she and the various directors on Disney Animation’s roster have monthly lunches where they exchange ideas and she pledged she would bring up that idea at the next one:

“Once a month, I just have lunch with all the directors together, and I’m gonna say, ‘There has been a request. Is there anyone here, who has been dreaming of that to happen?’

We’re filmmaker driven, so then I can blame them, if it doesn’t happen. No, I’m teasing…. that I’m gonna write that down and bring that to them. Unfairly, I haven’t done that yet, so I will. I love that.”

“TRON” has so far yielded two live-action films, with a third titled “TRON: Ares” that was to start filming before SAG-AFTRA strike grounded it. Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan are starring in that one.

Animation wise the franchise was turned into the series “TRON: Uprising” which ran on Disney XD from 2012-2013 with Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, and Lance Henriksen providing voices.
