Disney To Be Ahead Of Netflix In 2026

The latest forecast from analysts suggest that Walt Disney Company’s Disney+ streaming service will overtake Netflix sometime in the year 2025.

Research firm Digital TV Research shared the prediction in a new report indicating that the number of subscribers to Disney+ will also hit 284.2 million in 2026, while Netflix will be behind with 270.7 million subscribers around the same time.

They indicate that Disney will likely add up to 140 million subscribers over the next five years, heavily fuelled by numbers from the company’s Hotstar brand in Asian markets. They also expect Netflix will add 53 million customers over that same time period.

The report indicates that by 2026 – three platforms will control nearly half the world’s SVOD subscriptions. Those aforementioned two plus Amazon Prime which will likely hit 243.4 million users by that time.

Others are slated to be well behind by that year including China’s Tencent with 98.7 million users and iQiyi with 76.8 million, while HBO Max will sit at 76.3 million subscribers and Apple TV+ at 35.6 million.

Overall global SVOD subscriptions are expected to reach 1.64 billion according to the projections, 450 million of which will be within the United States.
