Disney+ Sets “Death Stranding” Anime Series

Kojima Productions

Disney+ has announced “Death Stranding: Isolations,” an original animated series based on Hideo Kojima’s video game franchise that will debut on the streamer in 2027.

Famed game creator Kojima took the stage himself at the Disney+ originals Asia Pacific preview on Thursday at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. Series director Sano Takayuki was also on hand to reveal the series.

Kojima will serve as executive producer on the series, which will tell an entirely new story set within the same universe as the video games but on a separate narrative.

The story follows a young man and woman on an adventure, and will be rendered in traditional hand-drawn 2D animation by Japan’s E&H production.

New concept art by Ilya Kuvshinov (“Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045”) was also shown. The project marks Kojima Productions’ first partnership with a global streamer.

The first game, starring the likes of Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and Léa Seydoux, launched in 2019 and has attracted more than 20 million players worldwide. A sequel launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 in June.
