Disney+ has scrapped its plans for a gender-swapped TV series reimagining of the 2003 Disney film “Holes,” which was based on Louis Sachar’s 1998 novel.
This reimagining of work follows a teenage girl sent to a juvenile detention camp for a crime she did not commit. Now incarcerated at Camp Green Lake, the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes in a dry lake bed for a mysterious purpose.
The teen discovers that both her own story and the story of their family are more connected to Camp Green Lake than she could have ever imagined. Shay Rudolph (“The Baby-Sitters Club”) was set to lead the cast of the pilot, which also included Aidy Bryant and Greg Kinnear as the Warden.
The project was ordered in January with Bryant as camp counselor Sissy, Noah Cottrell as kitchen employee Kitch. Flor Delis Alicea, Anire Kim Amoda, Iesha Daniels, Sophie Dieterlen, Alexandra Doke and Maeve Press would’ve played the other teens.
Alina Mankin was attached to write and executive produce the pilot with Liz Phang attached as showrunner and executive producer. Jac Schaeffer was set to direct the pilot and executive produce alongside Drew Goddard, Sarah Esberg and Mike Medavoyl for Walden Media and Shamrock
Shia LaBeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Khleo Thomas, Jon Voight, Tim Blake Nelson, Patricia Arquette, Dulé Hill and Eartha Kitt starred in the 2003 film.
