Disney Removing “Willow,” “Y: The Last Man”

Disney+, FX on Hulu

Following news of its intentions to remove content from its service last week during an earnings call, Disney has already begun pulling the plug on a number of television shows on both the Disney+ and Hulu services.

A Disney rep has confirmed to Vulture that the first handful of titles from their services will be pulled as soon as next week on May 26th.

The most high-profile titles being removed in this first round are the Disney+ “Willow” sequel series, FX’s “Pistol” miniseries, and FX & Hulu’s single season adaptation of the acclaimed comic “Y: The Last Man”.

Also being removed are Hulu’s Kat Dennings-led comedy “Dollface,” Disney+ children’s book series adaptation “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” animated comedy series “Little Demon,” and “The World According To Jeff Goldblum” series.

Other titles going include “Be Our Chef,” “Best In Dough,” “Best In Snow,” “Big Shot,” “Disney Fairy Tale Weddings,” “Earth To Ned,” “Everything’s Trash,” “Foodtastic,” “Howard,” “It’s a Dog’s Life With Bill Farmer,” “Love In The Time Of Corona,” “Maggie,” “Magic Camp,” “The Making Of Willow,” “The One And Only Ivan,” “The Premise,” “The Quest,” “Stuntman,” “Timmy Failure,” and “Wolfgang”.

The move follows a pattern set by Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav last year when that company removed content from HBO Max in exchange for tax breaks – some titles then popping up on AVOD platforms (aka. FAST channels) like The Roku Channel and Tubi at a later date.

It also marks a turn around for Disney CEO Bob Iger who started Disney+ to avoid licensing out its titles to third party platforms.
