Walt Disney Pictures is reportedly working on a sci-fi-infused live-action fantasy feature inspired by the classic Middle East folk tale collection “One Thousand And One Nights”.
Currently titled “1001 Nights,” the project is being penned and executive produced by Arash Amel (“Rise,” “Outside The Wire”) who is doing what’s described as an ‘original take’ drawn from the ancient folk tales.
The project will be a standalone IP, not related to any existing Disney properties such as the “Aladdin” film even though that film’s story hails from the original collection.
“Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves” and “The Seven Voyages Of Sinbad The Sailor” are also stories within the folk tales.
Amel is currently in pre-production on Amazon Studios’ “Fred & Ginger” film starring Jamie Bell and Margaret Qualley as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
