Disney Plans “Hidden Figures” Stage Musical

Disney is developing a stage musical adaptation of NASA biographical drama “Hidden Figures”.

Aa creative team of Black artists is spearheading the project which has already been quietly in the works for s few years. Film scholar and former critic Elvis Mitchell is attached as a creative consultant, but other creative team and casting details have yet to be announced.

The film was loosely based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s nonfiction book and deals with the untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) – brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

The movie was both a critical and box-office hit, snagging $236 million from a $25 million budget and scoring three Oscar nominations including Best Picture.
