Luke Evans and Josh Gad are set to reunite and reprise their roles of Gaston and LeFou in a “Beauty and the Beast” prequel series for the Disney+ streaming service.
This follow-up to the 2017 live-action remake of the 1991 animated classic is being dubbed a “six-episode musical event” and will feature new tunes from Disney legend Alan Menken.
The show will take place well before the events of the film, but will also expand that universe. Gad co-created the series with “Once Upon a Time” creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis and the trio will write all of the episodes and serve as co-showrunners.
All three will executive produce alongside Evans. There are no current plans to have characters like Emma Watson’s Belle or Dan Stevens’ Beast return. The 2017 film made over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office.
