Disney+ Orders “Kaiser Karl” Series

Disney Plus Orders A Karl Lagerfeld Series

A dramatic series about fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, titled “Kaiser Karl,” has been commissioned as a Star original for the Disney+ service.

Lagerfeld has been the subject of numerous documentaries, but this six-part series will mark the first scripted work about him.

The story will begin during the summer of 1972 and will trace Lagerfeld’s quest to become the successor of Coco Chanel, his rivalry with Yves Saint Laurent’s partner Pierre Berge, and his love story with Jacques de Bascher.

Gaumont (“Lupin”) will produce the France-shot adaptation of Raphaelle Bacque’s biography of the man. Bacque, Isaure Pisani-Ferry and Jennifer Have are attached as producers.

The announcement came as Disney+ is expanding its commitment to original Star productions in the overseas market – especially in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
