Walt Disney Co. is reportedly reviewing its schedule of film releases through the rest of the year and may delay some titles due to the ongoing actor’s and writer’s strikes.
Bloomberg broke the news, saying discussions are at an early stage, but the films impacted include including Walt Disney Animation Studios’ planned November release “Wish” along with a trio of Searchlight titles.
Those films are Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” starring Emma Stone, Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins” starring Michael Fassbender, and the Jonathan Majors-led “Magazine Dreams”. All three films were slated for release this year.
Some of Disney’s films may be too far along in their marketing to change, with this Friday’s “Haunted Mansion” still going forward, whilst Marvel Studios’ “The Marvels” is expected to remain scheduled for November and is their biggest film on the Fall calendar.
The trade indicates any changes will depend on the outcome of the review. This follows on from reports last week that Warner Bros. Discovery is similarly considering postponing some of its Fall films, including sci-fi tentpole “Dune: Part Two”.
This follows on from Disney already making some big changes to its release schedule earlier this year and having a disappointing Summer as both “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “The Little Mermaid” underperformed.
